6th May 2002 - A date that will live in infamy...
« on: May 06, 2002, 12:40:59 PM »
The unthinkable has happened.

While compiling the latest build of SUZ, my system crashed at a very inopportune moment. After a lengthy reboot - yep, you've guessed it, The Special Unit Zero directory had been erased from my hard-drive.  http://www.forums.thegaminguniverse.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crying.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':crying:'>

The reality of losing over a years work has not yet fully sunk in.

There are two ways i can go from here, I can either abandon the project altogether, or try to resume it from a backup. Taking the second option may not be as good as it sounds though, as the only backup i have that wasn't in that directory is a very old version that i burned to a CD, and if I were to use this source to continue the game I would have to re-write the engine to get it as close to what it was.

As a result I will now say that, on 6th May 2002, at 3:15pm, Special Unit Zero was officially declared dead on reboot - It lived a long and prosperus development life.

No way this can't be true. http://www.forums.thegaminguniverse.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('> I feel sorry for you man, all the work you put in it for nothing. http://www.forums.thegaminguniverse.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/unhappy.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':unhappy:'>

But it means Link's Odyssey will develop faster doesn't it? And please back it up on 10 different disks or whatever, I'm even more looking forward to that.

Edit: Moved to announcements (as this forum may cease to exist soon).

Well, I've had time to think and im going to continue making a megaman game. However it will NOT be SUZ. This decision comes following RMZ, now zero has his own game, do I really need to give him a side story?? I think no.

Throughout the development of SUZ i've wanted to implement things but had to omit them due to conflicting with the story line of the X series. I have now come up with a solution to this - Create my own series.

MegaMan Neo as it is currently called (until I have a better name for it) will be the successor to SUZ, featuring an all new MM in new scenarios. As soon as i've decided a basic premise I'll make a post in the SUZ forum where we can all throw ideas around, so the best ones get selected at the begginning of development - truly a game for fans by fans   :D

Shoot..........I was looking forward to that..........

Umm you don't have Norton full packakge on that machine by any chance do you (please say yes, and mean it..........and before the crash)

If you do, it has some really awesome system recovery tools.

That sucks.  Have you considered any data recovery methods?  You may not be able to get everything back or anything at all for that matter.  However, there may be a chance that it might save some of it.
