It's Final Fantasy IV's 25th Anniversary!
« on: July 19, 2016, 10:28:18 PM »
Released on July 19th, 1991 was one of the best FFs ever! Okay, IMO, it's the best FF ever, but still... :p

Did you play the game? If so, what are your favorite memories of it?

My favorite memories lie when Cecil enters the shrine in Mt. Ordeals... and the entire scene that follows.

I never would have guessed you played Final Fantasy IV. ;)

It's crazy to think the game is 25 years old now. Definitely my favorite Final Fantasy game as it got me into the genre to begin with. I've played it a lot just because of all the different versions that came out along the way. The SNES US Version, the translated J2E SFC version, the Playstation FF Chronicles release, the DS release. I think there may be a GBA release in there somewhere too. I have the PSP version that I got not all that long ago.

What makes you say that, Mottz? ;)

Yes, there is a GBA version. I beat it shortly before the DS version was announced.

I've also beaten: original SNES, J2E, PSX versions. And I've played the PSP version. And I've played the mobile/PC version(s), too. I don't really count those, though, since they are just direct, and awful ports of the DS version.

Not my #1, bit still a staple in the series. So many feels throughout the game. My favorite part is when Rydia comes back to help fight Golbez when he's trying to take the dark crystal from the dwarves.

In the Final Fantasy Record Keeper thread on Reddit about FF4's 25th, that was a VERY common favorite scene. That's probably my third favorite scene (second would be Cecil facing off with Zeromus) because YAY Rydia's back! :D

It's not my favorite in the series, but it's still one of my top 5. My favorite scene is the first scene where it opens up with Red Wings flying across the world map with their theme song and then going after the water crystal. It sets up the rest of the game so well for Cecil's story of redemption and without it, I don't think anyone would've connected with Cecil as much.

The story for 4 was solid. 5 is where it gets farfetched, but I love job systems. 6 is my favorite; a villain with no humanity left. Makes the Joker look like a saint.

I agree. Cecil is my video game hero.

5 was okay. 6 is awesome, and Kefka is my favorite FF villain. He's the only one of the villains who truly accomplishes his goal: destroy the world and become a god. Everyone else falls short (I dunno about 12, though, since I never played it). Though, Golbez does accomplish his goal: he gets all the Crystals and opens the way to the moon, but it's Zemus that fails.

Golbez actually never really ranked all that high as a villain for me. It's probably because he wasn't the final boss in the game.
