Who here has free time? That could be the main issue
« on: March 15, 2016, 09:37:09 PM »
There were many ideas that were made.
Some ideas were liked, and others sucked.
However, when it came to good ideas, no one followed through.
I don't know why it did not occur to me until now, the real reason why there's no idea that can work at the moment.
(Well, other then hiring someone)

All the active members here, are really busy with their real lives.
Back in the day, a lot of the members were ages 16-21, but all those members grew up, and don't have as much free time as they used to.

This place is called "The Gaming Universe", but I feel (at the moment), that I'm the only active gamer around here.
If there truly is no one here who has free time, then this site can't get active, at this time!

Well, actually, that's not completely true. Besides hiring someone or money contests, some of the members who have nostalgia for this place, could have their kids sign up.
Guardian's kids joined this place, after all!
Nostalgia is the only thing this place really has going for it atm!
So, time could help revive this site, if the nostalgia some of these members have for this place, and has lots of free time, then I could see GU getting a spark again.
--------------------------------
BTW, if contests are out of the question, because you don't have the money.
Then could money be saved, if you let the site go inactive for a month?
If that's not the reason, then ignore this idea!

i CAN'Y TRALLY ADD ANYTHING TO THIS TOPIC AT PRESENT, SAD TO SAY, BUT i WILL SAY THIS. tHERE IS NOTHING IN YOUR POST THAT i HAD ANY KIND OF NEGATIVE THOUGHTS OR FEELINGS TOWARDS. sEE? wE can MAKE PROGRESS! ;)
Never say never or always. In most cases, there is an exception to anything you can think of that you might use either word in. "Most likely" and "highly improbable" in a lot of those cases would ring true, but not never/always.

The problem is that we grew up and the next generation doesn't use forums, they use facebook and tumblr, etc.

That is one problem.

I still see a lot of people use IRC. Many thought that it was once dead, but it has actually been the opposite.

It has been hard to commit time for many things these past few years. Kind of like what happened to my Romancing SaGA LP that had one day so far... how lame; no time to continue on (and the motivation).

Uwot, mate?

Seriously, my guild (Guild Wars 2) uses forums, an RP site I'm at uses forums, the Dissidia Forums are OBVIOUSLY forums. Lethes, people still use forums. They're not going away anytime soon.

ZeldaUniverse is a very popular forum.

You might be onto something though.
Maybe instead of joining a million different forums, they join only a few.
If the forum does not generate a huge amount of traffic, they up and leave!

The only exception is if there's a bound community.. like the forum is not the main reason they visit.

Other then nostalgia, nothing bounds us to this place, especially since most of us (not me), no longer game

I'm not sure either why it didn't occur to you until now because I told you this a year ago. :P

About a year ago, it sounded like a few members had some free time here and there. Thought this a lot more when GU was making "Gu Reporter"
But now I basically gave up hope completely.

Or at least until I forget that no one has free time, or someone says how they are taking a vacation and relaxing at home!

So, basically, someone who is relaxing at home from a hard day in RL, or just relaxing from RL in general is a bad thing? That's what your words imply, KoH. I'm 30 years old, and I haven't played a video game in about a month. That could change very soon, though. However, people have other things in their life. From what I can glean from the threads here; family and health issues seem to be the most prevalent thing taking up peoples' time (you guys are welcome to correct me). Those things are more important than a dying forum.

I probably sound hypocritical considering I've made a few threads myself to try and revive GU; however, people have better things to do. There's only twenty-four hours in a day, and eight of them (on average) are spent sleeping. Another eight, working. Then, there's travel time, eating, errands, etc. Basically, in the end, you have around 4-5 hours of free time a day if you're really good at managing your time.

Not to mention crap happens: accidents, surgeries, a sudden death, vacations to visit family members, etc.

Exactly why I gave up.
GU can not grow, and it can not sink atm.
The only way it even can sink, is if Rowan stops paying the bill.

So not complaining, just took me forever to realize this.

free is the issue now for every one, and when I get a hunk is when you see me.

I pop in when it occurs to me.  Fortunately, it's neither as much as it used to be nor all that rare.
Read my novel, The Death Doll:

I'm currently thinking up some things as far as layout for a new and unique theme for GU. Beyond that, I'm not entirely sure what I can do.

I'd love to make a 5E DnD game using the Infinity Engine, but I imagine I'd need some permission... and the Infinity Engine source code if that's available. >.>
