** TRYING to return to World of warcraft**
« on: December 12, 2006, 05:34:09 PM »
Hey guys

So now that school is out for Christmas I decided to start up on Wow for a few weeks.

I reinstalled the game today...but.

I have NO IDEA what patch I need to get me started. The newest one will not install....and I am left to figure out what the heck I do to get myself ready! Man they don't make it easy for returning players. :)

Anyoen able to help me?

If it helps at all the version I have now is 1.2.1 4150

:)

The game should download the newest one available after login.
If not... the newest version is 2.0.1 but there is no full patch available for this, so you'll have to download 1.12 (almost 500mb) first and then upgrade to 2.0.1

I'm warning you though, be careful with this demonic game or it will consume you! Actually I'm considering that too because my characters will get deleted in 2 or 3 weeks (6 months after quitting) but I probably won't do it... It's only going to make everything worse

"This update requires "WoW.exe" version 1.12.0.5595. You have an older version, 1.2.1.4150."

Thats the message I got when I tried to Install the 1.12 Patch.

No that's not the same... but the small 1.12 patch is only incremental from a previous update. Like from 1.11 to 1.12 but 1.2 to 1.12 is way too much.
You need something like this: http://www.gamespot.com/pages/gamespace/download.php?pid=534914&sid=6156162&mode=patches
This is the FULL patch, you could even patch v1.0 with that one

From what I recall reading on the WoW site, they never delete your account, which I think means they never delete your characters either. Where does it say they will delete your characters after X time of not playing?

Hm I checked that now... seems like different rules for Europe and North America.
North American characters never get deleted but european may be deleted after 6 months. That depends on the server capacities but I heard that so far none have been deleted...
Thanks, I wouldn't have searched for it otherwise ;)

Your patch numbers are screwed up for some reason. Use the checking utility that Blizzard includes, it should check for consistency.

Ideally, on reinstall, you should have to download two patches, 1.12 and 2.01, totaling at a gig of space.

Maverick: That's unusual. I suspect they never delete them anyhow. EQ2 says it deletes my characters after a few month, yet they're still there. ;p
