How ironic that on the hottest day of the year, large areas of York were subjected to drought as 11 water mains burst early this morning.

1500+ people were left with no water in 34 degree heat...

In an odd twist of fate 3 roads had mains burst near us but the water wasn't out :o

Apparently an electrical problem made a water tower register as empty, so the flow was increased, increasing pressure and bursting the pipes...
I'm just glad i wasn't in a dry patch.

That's a pretty cool way for it to go really, the tank registering as empty, then pressure rising, awesome :D, but I guess not so good for York.

But yeah, way to hot in England recently, without water bleh. It doesn't bear thinking about.

Have the water pipes been fixed yet or is the water still out?

They are trying to get them fixed by the end of the day, but I can't be sure when it is actually done as we didn't lose our supply anyway...

How soon can they get it fixed?

Dude, that sucks, how do you survive in that kind of heat with no water?
Something might go here in the future, maybe, sort of, possibly, never.

Interesting.

Those tanks are suppose to have several sensors, as failsafes incase one fails. In the event one sensor becomes suspect, the tank no longer fills.

However, heat plays all kinds of tricks on electronics. I'd wager the sensors were fine, but the control module got owned by heat.

That's way funny.  But I'd hate to have something like that happen.  Hopefully the people are able to just laugh it off.  Hopefully they weren't out of water for too long.

Wow that's screwed up. On the hot days you need as much water as possible. So I'm sure this is going to hurt many people until it will get fixed.

o.O That sucks yeah. I know that I drink more when it's hot, and I also know that you're supposed to drink at least 2 liters of fluid a day. I hope those ppl will have their water back soon.
