Quote (Emaleth @ Jan. 07 2002,14:57)
The bad first...  More than I could have imagined, I missed Tom Bombardil.  He and his wife were such great characters.  Also, the whole thing with how the fellowship got Bill (the mule).  In the book Sam gets very attached to Bill as a pet, that was all bypassed in the movie.

Oh, almost forgot...Arwen taking the place of the other elf at the ford removed a potentially confusing extra character but the whole thing of her challenging the Ringwraiths instead of Frodo removed the whole thing of his strength in defying them even when on the edge of their world.  In fact quite a lot of that was lost, making him seem really quite a weak character.  The actor does a really good "im about to die but i'll pull through in the end like the other hundred odd times ive pulled this face so far" face, though![/quote]
Well............

I ahve read the books, aalbiet long agao, and seent he movie, and a lot of you comments confused me.

as for the CGI errors,

I didn't notive the feet, but I think your right, as for the other I can't think of anything.

But all in all it was good, they sunk a TON of money into it.
HP was possibly the only thing that had as much money in it in 2000.

30 to 40 mins more footage on the DVD? that would take it to nearly 4 hours! unless you mean "extras" like interviews and stuff.

Just now bought The Phantom Menace DVD, that is what a DVD should be like. 2 discs, and the movie only takes up one. But I'm sure LOTR DVD will be just as good http://www.gaminguniverse.f2s.com/cgi-bin/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>

I thought the greatest part of the movie was the scenery. It was just as I had envisioned, only better.

LOL!  Yep, the movie did want to make you holler out to Legolas... "get it in gear!"

Anyhoo, I did go and see it again on Thursday.  Different venue as it was a smaller theater and more adults than kids (no offence to the little people..lol).  But I have to say, there was more vocalization from the adults than any... heh heh.

Like a book, you get more out of each time you see a movie.  Will have to see it a third time... and a fourth... and again... those Ringwraith's.... excellent!

Anyway, I loved this movie. A few places different from the book, but I expected that.  I was awestruck throughout. The fights were great, the scenery spectacular, the acting inspired.

The bad first...  More than I could have imagined, I missed Tom Bombardil.  He and his wife were such great characters.  Also, the whole thing with how the fellowship got Bill (the mule).  In the book Sam gets very attached to Bill as a pet, that was all bypassed in the movie.  There were a couple of CGI mistakes, like when they are running out of the mountain and when they exit the mountain.  You can see their feet are off the ground and they move way too fast.  Finally, the relationship between Frodo and Sam was not explained properly.

The good...  The Barlog was tremendous.  The scenery in general was great.  I thought for the most part every actor played the character as I expected.  The lone exception was Arwen.  Legolas and Gimli were wonderful, but not enough was made of Loth Lorien - especially as the need in the book for Gimli to be blindfolded was important to the development of the characters of and relationship between Legolas and Gimli.  In fact throughout all of the relationships seemed very understated - there wasnt enough of any one of the characters other than Frodo for any proper sense of their character to be obtained. Can't wait to see more of them in the coming movies.  Finally, the Ringwraiths were the best.  I think they captured Tolkiens vision to a 'T'.

There seems to be some mixed information coming out about the Ents, for the next film.  I thought they were going to be in the movie, but I have heard that they were going to be axed from the final cut.  Does anyone have any info on this?

All in all, a wonderful movie I recommend to all, Tolkien fan or not.

The actor does a really good "im about to die but i'll pull through in the end like the other hundred odd times ive pulled this face so far" face, though!

The whole love interest thing was increased from the book, but not to the extent that there seemed any point to it.  Maybe this will be used in the later films but it seemed really disjointed when just the first one is seen alone.

EDIT:  Ahh phooey!  LOL, Title of this post is messed up... got disconnected and was typing in wrong spot.  Found out you can't edit topic!

Edit2:  Could one of the Admin's please edit the topic title to just Lord of the Rings movie?  Thank you!

I agree, the movie(s) will be a classic and are a classic.  I enjoyed the movie and it amazed me just how similar the movie looked to what I had imagined in my head! http://www.gaminguniverse.f2s.com/cgi-bin/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbsup.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

Yes, exactly.  I can't wait for the DVD either.  And the movie has already earned 4 Golden Globe Nominations AND is still number one.

I want to see it again, apparently on the last reel of the film (march) there will be a preview of The Two Towers at the end of the movie. Have to make sure to see that.

I'm waiting on a certain female friend before I see it again, we're sort of supposed to be going together, but it's very unofficial.. not sure I can wait  http://www.gaminguniverse.f2s.com/cgi-bin/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/shrugani.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

geez I love that shrug smily, you can use it for anything.

I agree on a lot of your points. I too was awestruck though, definitely a classic film.

The relationship between Sam and Frodo was underplayed completely. And the introduction of Arwen I thought was unnecessary, in the book, she was not that important. And a lot of non-book viewers would have been just as pleased with the other elf as her.

I thought they should have definitely included some of the forest scenes, although I agree with not adding in Tom Bombardil. That part was too long for a movie, and unimportant to the overall story.

The way they showed the scenes with Gandalf and Saruman, when in the book they were only mentioned, was a definite masterstroke.

Legolas was fantastic, he was the perfect elf. And my favorite character now.

And the Ents being axed from The Two Towers? How can they? If they axe them, (pardon the pun) then half the book will be axed! Since The second book was much shorter than the first, they will cut less out. I can't wait to see the battle at Helm's Deep on the screen. I hope they keeop most of that scene intact.

Well, I suppose why I said that is due to my enjoyments of different characters Zeo, it was an excellent movie and I will be buying it when it is available to the public and will more than likely see it again in the theater before then too!  lol

Just that I liked Tom & his wife (argh, cannot think of her name!) characters and being fond of animals myself (have 2 very spoiled cats!), the caring & love that Sam had for the mule to me added to his character in the books.  Just the skeptic in me although knowing that it is impossible to put all of one of the finest works of literature into a movie, still deep inside, wanting to see it complete.

And the other, well, even though he really did a great job as Frodo, my imagination of his character didn't quite match.  A flaw that is in most of us I am sure who envision what each character in a book looks & acts like.  That and you know when you see some actors in parts and you cannot get out of your head the vision you had seen them before?  LOL, like that one time I watched Cripes... forgot the name, Blues somethingorother... that cop show.  Anyhoo, I see Ricky Shroeder and remember him as the crying little boy in that fight movie...lol

Can't remember who said that about the Ents... but have a funny feeling that it's nothing but rumors, I mean cripes, Peter Jackson would have to have been an idiot to axe them!

EDIT:  LOL, forgot I was a moderator... fixed the topic title myself!  Oie...

hehe, yes the same girl. You have a good memory. She invited me to see it with her and a few friends.. whilst not entirely a date, it's better than nothing.

Never been to NZ, though I'd like to, it's only a couple of hours flight from Melbourne.
