I certainly hope to see it on Steam as well! If Capcom does this and continues to port other games (like the BoF series) I'll have very little reason to keep an emulator around. XD

For me, there's no such thing as "too many consoles". Most consoles fail (the big 3 are the exception not the rule, if you take into account every console ever produced), but sometimes making the attempt can be for the betterment of others since mistakes can be learned from.

As for it being a cash grab, I can kind of see why people think that with pre-orders being done on Indiegogo, but Atari's already funded it for release. I don't see any harm in getting some of that spent revenue back early so they can port games, add stuff, or maybe just to deal with manufacturing costs so they can release more VCS consoles. Making consoles is hard and expensive as many failed attempts can attest.

Not sure why you guys prefer this over the big 3 (even though microsoft is a joke atm).. but your money.

Big 4 if you include PC. I bring up PC because unlike the other consoles, the VCS is actually just a PC stuffed into a small box and comes with controllers instead of a keyboard to be used as a console. The reason why I'm excited for it is because it's an open system from a well known brand, Atari. PCs are only truly open if they're running an open Linux based OS (not every Linux OS can be considered truly open) or some other opensource OS (EX: FreeBSD), but in doing so you loose out on a lot of the games. It's gotten better but SquareEnix, and others still don't port a lot of games to Linux. I want to see Linux gaming take center stage someday, even in console form. Unlike the SteamOS boxes, the VCS feels different. Like it may have a chance to perform well enough to shake things up a bit and bring more developers to making/porting games to Linux.

For me, gaming moving to an open platform would be the largest advancement since Nintendo and Sega resurrected the gaming world back in the 80s. While Windows and other platforms continue to close themselves off to the end user and take more control away from them, moving all my gaming to an open platform where I know I'm in control again it's pretty important to me.

And this is why getting news from Youtube is a double-edged sword. On one hand there are a few youtubers out there that actually do a decent job of researching things calmly and objectively and can give a rational presentation of their findings. That said, there are also a lot of youtubers that jump on the latest bandwagon with the most common opinion of a subject and it quickly becomes a competition of "Come watch me! I'll tell you why the latest thing sucks!" "No! No! No! Come to me, I know more about why the latest thing sucks!"

The later is rampant on Youtube and does not qualify as actual journalism, but a lot of those channels have gotten so good at dressing it up that it's pretty easy to fall for it. In addition, it's not unheard of for some of the better channels to occasionally jump on the bandwagon to get some extra views from time to time and that ruins their credibility. To this day, I'm not aware of any gaming channel on Youtube that has not fallen into jumping on the bandwagon for extra views at least once.

It does not mean we shouldn't believe any of them since a lot of them do get it right, but doesn't mean we should stop scrutinizing them either (I would put the mass media in the same boat but that's another topic for another time).

When KoH posted the link, it was an attempt to use a video from a guy who appears to have posted multiple videos already bashing the VCS and was already on a hunt for finding anything he could use to bash it again as evidence. This is not actual evidence of a scam. It amounts to "See! I told you so! This other hater of all things VCS said so, it must be true!" This is rumor and Dandel has already expertly dispelled it.

KoH, if you want to make the claim that the the VCS is a scam, please give us an objective rational argument backed up by evidence. I'm genuinely curious as to why you are so dead set against it and what the VCS has done to set you off to hate it so much that you won't give it a chance (if that's not the case I apologize, but that's the impression I'm getting).

Agreed, I have high hopes for the controllers, but since it'll support the other PC controllers at least we'll be able to use what we already have just in case.

My pre-order is done now XD.

I'm looking forward to it next year. This looks like it'll be a cool console and even if the games don't go anywhere at least I'll have a useful open system to play with.

I'm going for the wooden one. :)

Looks good, I'll pre-order this Saturday after I get paid. XD

Just a small update, I added the start time of the actual preorders to the main post. The preorders are scheduled to start a 9AM Eastern, 6AM  Pacific Time on May 30th, 2018.

Cool, it starts tomorrow. :)

They'll face an uphill battle especially with such a long time before they start shipping it, but I'm hopeful for them. Open systems can bring about change if they're done right (even if the system itself fails it can be learned from). We won't know for sure how it'll turn out until it finally starts shipping, but I'm hoping for any kind of shakeup in the console world. That and I want to see Atari make a comeback.

I've also seen white and blue for candy canes. :P

Also for a X-Mas theme, one does not need to rely on candy canes alone. You can do gingerbread brown and candy buttons, or dark brown and green for the tree with the buttons being the lights on the tree, or outside snowfield theme at night for darker theme ideas. ;)

I got it not too long after it came out and it was probably the crappiest port Squeenix has ever put out. The UI was basically the mobile UI from the mobile port and looked like crap and the font hurt my eyes, the CG cut scenes were blurry as hell and the "high res" graphics were so poorly put together that you could see the seems on almost every tile since nothing lined up like it was supposed to. All in all, it was an awful mess that should've never happened to one of the best RPGs of all time.

Secret of Mana (in spite of the problems) had such better treatment in its remake that to say CT fans were outraged is probably the understatement of the year.

To give you an idea of how bad the initial release was, I've seen quick and dirty RPG Maker games with stock graphics give a better presentation than that port of CT.

Given Squeenix's habit of shoveling ports to PC with minimum effort, I'm surprised that they finally listened to the outrage of the gamers, but glad that something finally got through to them. The first update made it a little better by bringing back the SNES graphics, and the second update fixed the UI a little bit as well and I see the influence of I Am Setsuna in it, but since I Am Setsuna plays much like how CT originally did on the SNES they should've gone further for the UI fixes. They still have other issues they need to fix in it. The font is still really bad, there's still too much of a mobile UI feel with giant buttons, and to be honest, as much as I love the SNES version, I really want them to fix the high res graphics. The SNES graphics look better but on a high resolution monitor I feel like they can do better.

Right now it's still probably best to play the ROM on an emulator, but they have at least made some progress. Even if they do fix all the problems, they at this point owe it to fans to do a proper remake of CT.

Cool, time off is always good to have.

Tomorrow the dept is doing an escape room for a team building exercise so that'll be different. We'll see if the problem solving skills we have will transfer over something other than IT. XD
