General Chit Chat / Re: WAL-MART needs to be held accountable
« on: November 27, 2011, 10:38:09 AM »
I remember the referred-to incident with someone getting trampled at a Walmart.

Black Friday is traditionally about getting the best deals on the things you want.  If I may use a Canadian example, take Boxing Day.  In the last three years, on December 26, either I personally or my family have been seen outside of Future Shop to get something we wanted.  We were at the Future Shop in London, Ontario, on both occasions.  I may very well be there again this year or next if I see something else I want.  At 5:00 in the morning with blowing snow around me, already in a line halfway to the back of the store - further by the time the store opens at 6 a.m. - and shivering in the cold.  (In other words, I would prefer Black Friday.)  In any case, I got myself a laptop at a cheap deal three years ago (now they're even cheaper), and my sister got something unique that I can't remember last year.  We then headed over to Walmart, which on Boxing Day is relatively quiet; other stores seem to be the ones that people are lining up at.  The one by the Future Shop is huge, and almost nobody is there except a few bargain seekers.  It's almost like Walmart for the morning doesn't exist.

Heck, last year we went by Staples later on.  Best Buy is in the same plaza at Fanshawe Park Road and Richmond, but they were lining up for an office supply store not opening for another HOUR because the thing they want is slightly cheaper there.

So we have it here as well.  I think one way to put it is that Americans tend to get better deals than Canadians do.  One day I want to see a Black Friday for myself somewhere.  But if someone does a drive-by shooting on purpose shooting at people in line to buy the brand new PS3 (at the time), Walmart has no way to stop that person's ridiculous and unlawful behaviour and can't be held accountable.  The fact is that thieves and other idiot-types will go to Walmart first to prey on people because it's the easiest place to find people to shoot guns at.  If Walmart didn't exist, other places would have these problems, and would you be suggesting they should be accountable?  Yes, I'm sure you would.  But they can't control the mindless' behaviour any more than the victims of the mindless people can.  They can't predict someone getting trampled.  They can try to control the flow of people into the store - in fact, I've seen they have tried to do that, but people just don't listen.  They can only do so much.

Back to Canada.  Both Boxing Days at Future Shop, they stopped the flow of people when the fire code level was reached.  Yes, the line, if all allowed in at once, would have broke the fire code.  In fact, last year, I'm sure there was a lot of mystification when the checkout system completely broke down - went offline - and they had to stop EVERYONE from going in because there was no way for people to buy anything, meaning no one was leaving without their purchases, meaning no one was getting to go in.  For those further back in the line, it turned into a very chilly reception to the tradition of Boxing Day shopping.  Fortunately, I wasn't getting something there this time and just wandered Walmart for eons wondering what was taking them so long.

Wait - Skyward Sword is out?  This might be worth the purchase, even if I don't have the chance to play my Wii in a while.

See ya ... eventually ... maybe even in person ... eventually!

Darn it. I want to meet a GU'er in person. :(

Come up to Ontario and you might have a chance. ;)  Otherwise, can't make any promises.

Come up with a caption for this image.

Have fun.  I've already seen one great one, hence this game.

Discuss.

Also, if you have an iPhone, tribute to him by using something on it today.

I think I'm the only person who doesn't mind Alias.  Yeah, he's weird, but who here isn't?

I don't know whether that is a compliment or an insult. :P

I'd need a guarantee that I don't have to move to Phoenix for any classes. alias_jargon lives there.

I was a moderator here when alias jargon was on his chat room run.  What a moron.  I for one lost a couple of nights' sleep to that creature keeping an eye on things, and if I were to see him now (assuming I knew who he was), I'd do more than slap him in the face.

You're suddenly giving me the idea I need to move to Vancouver.  That's about the equivalent here.

I also think about moving to canada, building my own cabin, and joining some foresting group.

Foresting.  Chopping down trees hoping they don't land on you is not stress inducing?

As for jobs in particular, good luck with that in Canada.  First, you have to get yourself legally entitled to work in Canada (just like I can't work in the U.S.).  Second, you have to find the jobs.  It took me two years to find this one and I mainly am using it to gain experience.  I don't know how long the job is intended to last as yet, I'm in a trial phase ATM as far as I know.

You weigh 123 and you consider yourself fat?  I would consider that incredibly sexy.  Seriously.

As in, let's trade bodies.  You'd probably commit suicide.  And I shouldn't say that lightly, of course, just saying it COULD be worse.
