I don't play very many games, but I could see about writing something related to WoW, GW2 or other things I actually do play. :s

Good to see some action starting on the forums again. :) Almost feels like the old days.. now lets just make certain we actually get something done this time around. :P

This really reminds me of a rogue like game called Dwarf Fortress, which uses a similar (but much more complex) world generation to create a randomized world map for the player to use and play with. The map is then split into smaller segments/countries/areas, aka sites, that you can choose to play in. Aside just land formations, elevation, rivers and such DF's world generator also creates history, wild life and different races (dwarves, elves, humans and goblins) for the generated world and also adjusts and customizes the world basing on the cultures and historical events that happened: Say you embark on a site, build your fortress and do some serious landscaping until something 'fun' happens and you abandon the fortress site, the changes you made to that site will remain there even if you embark or start over at another place. You can also come back and re-embark or reclaim the old area to play at it again.

Browsing through the roleplaying forums and visiting old posts.... I must admit, this is kind of nostalgic. While my life is still a complete mess, I feel a lot more confident and stable then I was back then. Not to mention my social skills have improved.

Oh geez.. I don't even dare to go look at my own posts.. You are a brave, brave person. x_X

Any Pokémon lovers on the Board?

I've been playing the new X version since this generation came out in last October, and gotta say.. I love what they've done. I'm having trouble deciding where to start describing all the new fun stuff in the games.  The fact they updated the games from purely 2D sprites to 3D with 2D elements still included, really has brought the Pokémon world to a new life.

Hm.. Since I brought up 3D graphics, I guess I could start from 2 big things that are new: Firstly, you can customize your character. Hair color, skin color, eye color, and later on you can even buy clothes from numerous different shops around the region and build an outfit that really feels most you. There is a looot to choose from and the styles vary from sporty to gothic and more. You can also make and edit a trainer video to show off your trainer prowess and share it with other people.

Secondly.. Pokémon Amie! Aka Pokémon Tamagochi! They included a mode where you can actually play, pet and hang around with your favorite Pokémons. It is so much fun, and so cute too. You'll build and furnish a room, or I guess it's the inside of a Poké ball, and then you let your Pokémon hang around in there. The minigames include berry picking, ball bouncing and puzzle solving. You'll get more furniture pieces and Poké puffs to feed your Pokémon with the better you do in the games. Plus the more you play with your Pokémon, the happier and friendlier they get towards you. Plus you can totally piss a Pokémon off and their reactions vary from "Aww"-inducing to pure hilarity.

Also, 3D battles look really amazing. The new battle animations and everything seem mostly smooth and it is really much fun to actually see your Pokémons execute the moves.

The big, big thing that also carries the story line of the game, is a new type of Evolution that will temporarily make your Pokémon super powered - the Mega Evolution. There is a select few species of Pokémon that can achieve an evolution beyond their last form if they are holding a Mega Stone. This is a really nice addition that brings some new and interesting mechanics into the battle scenes. Plus some of the Mega Forms look kick ass.

X & Y have also updated a lot of the online and Social features in the game. They have included a Player Search System (PSS), which allows you to look for other players through the internet. This adds a multiplayer component to the game, and also a lot more content, since you can battle, trade, share O-Powers (different buffs you can use to change your game experience) and chat with people more.

Trading has also been made easier: The traditional Global Trade System has been updated so that you can now browse and look for Pokémon you haven't encountered in the game, as long as you know its name. There's also a new trading feature called Wonder Trade, where you do random trades with strangers and it's  up to basically luck what you get. (It is very, very addicting...).

They have also added new battle modes, e.g. Sky battles, where you battle the other trainers using only flying pokemons. Another new comer is the Horde Encounters, where you'll basically be swarmed by multiple wild Pokémons at once.

EV training has been made easier by introcuding Super Training. This makes preparing for competitive battling much less grindy (No more hunting one specific wild Pokémon for EV gains, HOORAY).

I've been churning in a lot of game hours just to fill the damn Dex.. The games' Poké Dex (actually Poké Dexes, since the Dex has been split into 3 regional Dexes to accomodate for the giant size of the region) is probably the biggest one to date, with almost every Pokémon from earlier versions included. This decks the amount of Pokémon to find, trade or capture to over 700. x_X

And much much more. I could write a novel just to describe everything. XD

Almost forgot.. FAIRIES - A new type of Pokémon. They created the Fairy type to help balance out the Dragon type, which was kind of over powered due to being weak only against itself and ice. :D It's rather hilarious watching a tiny (and most often baby PINK), Pokémon beat the crap out of a giant violent looking Dragon.

Anyone want to swap friend codes? I want.. no.. I NEED more friend safaris. >.>

Years back I made one New Years resolution, which was to make no New Years Resolutions ever again. I've kept that pretty nicely so far. That being said, I do have some goals I plan to achieve this year, though mostly they're just stuff I've been putting aside for too long. *shrug*

Lets see...

1. To get in shape. I've been round all my life due to many reasons, most of which got to do with bad mental health. Lately I've been getting my mind back on track, so I think I'm going to try and do something about this rotting body of mine.
2. Finish school. I've been a student for past 5+ years. I've recently changed majors to something I actually have talents in, and now I'm fully intending to pull myself from the slump, work my ass off, graduate and get on with my life.
3. Do more art. I've always been active with arts, but I'm thinking more in the lines of research and trying to spread my name around. Commissions, contests, maybe I could even try and set up a small local exhibit at a library or something.
4. Find a relationship (Optional). I haven't ever been in a rush to date anyone or find someone special, but I've now been single for quite a long time and it'd be nice to find someone new to my life.

I watched a few seasons of the show by the suggestion and coercion of SDG and LID. It's a good show, I'd let my kids watch it if I had any (My cat doesn't really understand anything related to TV or movies so she sadly doesn't enjoy ponies).

I've managed to avoid the Bronylution though - yay!

Though I didn't avoid drawing a pony... :(

*peeps around*

Wow, lots and lots of old names I haven't seen in a very, very long time. I can also see most of your personalities and opinions haven't really changed either from back then. :P I'm feeling all sorts of cozy right away! :D

Personally, I've been busy studying, playing WoW and just generally doing life-related activities (I say related because I still can't claim to have much of a life :P).

Guess I could try and post something once in blue moon.
Seeing that the IRC has been revived (major kudos to SDG taking the initiative there) I do have a few questions to ask regarding the state of the site.

6. Does anyone remember the old GU Reporter idea that Eliwood had all the way back? Would people be interested in reviving this as a means of attracting attention to the site? I'm limited in the technical aspects, and I have no art skills, but I have an extremely keen eye for organization and such. With some assistance, we could easily keep up on all the latest gaming news and provide personal reviews and previews.

7. I made a mibbit chat link that directs to the new IRC channel and automatically brings the user into it. Would it be possible to get this linked to or embedded into the website somehow?

Yessum, thank you SDG for the IRC. :P I'll try and pop in once in awhile just to chat with the old farts. :D

Hmm.. I remember the GU reporter thing. It was a really neat idea imo. While gaming pages are a dime in a dozen these days, it could help to bring some new needed life and traffic to the site. Or if nothing else, give us something to do while on the forums. :P

Thankies for the chat link, Sophia. :) I'm too lazy to actually install an IRC app to my computer so I'll book mark it.

General Chit Chat / Re: GU meeting in Georgia?
« on: March 03, 2011, 11:49:29 PM »
I don't recall seeing anything about DATES in the Georgia area.  When would you be around?  And would you be able to come down to the Savannah area?  If nothing else, we do have an extra room.
I'll be in Georgia from 22nd April till 6th May. A week of that is reserved to a lovely bunch of friend that live in Atlanta, and the other week to Macon. :) Sadly I have no idea if I was able to come to Savannah area or not.. =/ I have a friend come over from Finland to travel with me during those two weeks, so I also need to ask her how she'd think about it.

It's a shame that so many of you can't make it. D: Oh well, getting to meet at least a little of the people will be fun. ^^

I will also be in Detroit, Michigan for a week starting 12th March, if anyone is interested in going for a cup of coffee or something and lives in the northern states. :D

The Museum / Re: So who here runs a blog?
« on: March 02, 2011, 07:23:13 PM »
I used to have a blog in LiveJournal. It still exists but I rarely use it anymore, for anything else than keeping an eye on what my friends are up to (and it's in Finnish). I also used to blog pretty much when I actively used MySpace, but that thing has also gotten dusty and rusty and lost. I sometimes think about starting a new blog, but then I realize I'd probably just be able to keep it up for a week or two max, before I'd run out of time or interest to update.

General Chit Chat / GU meeting in Georgia?
« on: February 28, 2011, 04:29:19 PM »
Well, today I had a small chat with Guardian, who fished me out of the hole I've been  lurking in, and since I'm for now residing on US soil, we started to think about a possible GU meeting in Georgia. Anyone interested? I'd be in Georgia for two weeks around April-May and will be hanging with SDG and LID near Macon. :)

The Portal / Re: Hello (again)
« on: February 28, 2011, 04:12:53 PM »
Man, now there's an old face that I recognize. :) Glad to hear from you! And I can agree with the drifting back to GU theory - no matter where or what I end up doing, I seem to at least briefly get back here now and then. =P

How things are in GU.. I have no idea, today's the first day I myself have put my nose here for months. All thanks to Guardian poking me in Facebook. Yall had moved to another spot 'n all 'n nobody told me. Or well, SDG did mention it but I guess it slipped m' mind.

I'm sorry to hear about this. Has there been any updates on her situation? I hope she has been getting better.

GU Fighter / Re: New GUF footage for the firs time IN ages
« on: November 01, 2010, 05:10:20 AM »
Ah GUF.. I remember being so enthusiastic about it and how it started my interest in pixel art. It's fun to see someone still tampering around with the stuff in it. :) I used to try unify the graphics level so that all of the sprites and graphics would look about the same in quality and resolution, but lost my interest somewhere along the way (probably because it was such a huge process and the project was already pretty dead by then).

I should still have a lot of the sprite files and such somewhere safe, since I have the tendencies of a hamster and haven't really thrown anything out. Another question is whether or not the files have been corrupted since I've changed computers so many times. x.x

*checks if the game still works*

Everything is still working. o.o I could possibly zip it up and upload somewhere if anyone needs/wants it.
