Solar Eclipse
« on: August 21, 2017, 07:57:03 PM »
Anyone see the solar eclipse? I was right in its path for it today and it was quite the spectacle. I've seen pictures, videos, simulations, etc back in school, on TV, and on the Interwebs, but seeing it in person well worth it. They pretty much closed down everything at work so everyone could go outside and see it and passed out the eclipse glasses for it. I tried taking a pic of it with my cell phone when the moon was completely covering the sun, but couldn't get a good pic of it.

I saw the onset, but the clouds rolled in, so I couldn't see the rest.  Plus, I was supposed to be in a class.

I had a 90% eclipse here in Utah. I didn't get to see it, mainly because it was around noon, so mid-way in the sky, I'm sick, can't go outside during windy days (unless I want to irritate my lungs further) and also I didn't want to blind myself. :p

Personally, I felt like this event was hyped up a lot and it really wasn't that exciting. Though, a lot memes came from it (like Majora's Mask Moon covering up the sun. XD).

LOL, memes aside, if you were in an area that could see the total eclipse, it would've been worth it. At 90% you wouldn't see much change in daylight so 'meh' for that. IMO seeing the total eclipse and seeing the sun's corona live in person made me happy to be alive yesterday. It's one thing to see it on video or any of the dozens pics you can get online, but seeing it in person is really something else. But then I've always been interested in astrological events and astronomy so I guess to each their own.

Also you won't go blind if you have proper eclipse glasses. My eyes are just as good as they were before I watched it. :P

I couldn't see it. Messed up eyes, to begin with, plus I had to go see my retina specialist that day to get an injection in my right eye, and in the process, they dilated my eyes for no apparent reason.

On a side note, I am in the process of getting into 3D printing, and hope to eventually be able to print out the parts for building a Pikon telescope.
Never say never or always. In most cases, there is an exception to anything you can think of that you might use either word in. "Most likely" and "highly improbable" in a lot of those cases would ring true, but not never/always.

I made this to "commemorate" the occasion.

LOL, what I saw was close to top half, but the picture I took with my cell phone looked more like the bottom half.
