Sept 2016 - Humble Game Maker Bundle
« on: September 06, 2016, 07:03:37 PM »
In yet another case of the Humble Bundle carrying resources for game development, the currently running Humble Bundle: Game Maker Bundle features a lot of fairly easy to use development tools that most will find useful in creating their own games. Just so everyone knows, this bundle ends on Tuesday September 20th, 2016.

Just as a quick note, the following Items alone are valued at a total of over $900 USD.
  • GameMaker: Studio Pro - $149
  • GameMaker: Studio Pro - HTML Module - $199
  • GameMaker: Studio Pro - Android Module - $299
  • GameMaker: Studio Pro - IOS Module - $299
  • GameMaker: Studio Pro - Windows UWP Module  ( This one is in the Master Collection Only )

Dang, that's tempting.

But how much do you need to pay for the GameMaker Studio Pro for Windows? I noticed $12.10 one, but the first stage has no price. Hmmm...

Most of the bundles are broken into 3 item sets usually... For this particular bundle the item sets are broken down into the following sets, and I have bolded the items of interest for game developers...
  • Item Set 1 - These are added to the bundle with a minimum purchase of $1.
    • GameMaker: Studio Pro
    • Uncanny Valley
    • Cook, Serve, Delicious!
    • INK
    • Extreme Burger Defense With Source Code
    • Freeway Mutant With Source Code
    • Shep Hard With Source Code
    • Angry Chicken: Egg Madness! With Source Code
  • Item Set 2 - These are added when you beat the average. This is currently about $12.25 USD.
    • HTML5 Module
    • Home
    • Solstice
    • Galactic Missile Defense With Source Code
    • Uncanny Valley Source Code
    • Ink Source Code
    • 10 Second Ninja X GameMaker Edition with Source Code
    • Code Cook, Serve, Delicious! Source Code
  • Item Set 3 - $15 or more adds the following to the bundle:
    • Android Module
    • iOS Module
    • Windows UWP Module
    • Flop Rocket with Source Code and Windows UWP Package
    • Solstice Source Code
    • Home Source Code

NOTE: I would go for the  $15 bundle due to the added $600+ worth of export modules.

Argh... so tempting. But the question is... what game would I make? And do I have time? Also, I can't afford $15 right now (I'm that poor).

... I wonder if I could re-create the Infinity Engine and make a DnD game based on 5E! :O I don't think it could take place in Faerun, though. I'd have to ask Wizards.

Edit: I gave in and bought the $15 one. Ugh... this will hurt, but still...

I grabbed it for a rainy day, basically. I'm limited on funds, but I managed to scrape up enough to take care of it. Unfortunately, I also had bought the basic game of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel on the midweek madness sale, too, so I'll be hurting for a while. Not being able to work sucks, big time.

Nothing. Except I'm poor, and my job training starts on the 12th... I'm in debt and I hope I get paid enough by the 24th (they told me my first paycheck might be on the 24th, but I should check with my trainer), and so THIS HURTS. >_<; Cost-wise.

The primary reason for getting this deal was for the resources for me, Mottz, not the middle tier platform (the bottom tier is free).

Well, I thought I was told there are assets included that might come in handy. Now that I think about it, the "export" thingies are the big deal with this bundle. They let you export a game into an app for other operating systems. I know iOS, Android, and whatever Windows UWP is are included in what I got. Not sure how much I'll actually use them, but I have them in case I get bored. I'm kinda interested in how well this would work for me.

What's wrong with free development tools?

Nothing's wrong, so long as the tools get a lot of care to make it so that others can use the tools... I know that some of the tools GU had in the past where horrible for new users to use.

What resources are those?

Generally speaking the source code in GameMaker that was used to make the game work.

Yes, That is correct, In this specific bundle the most important elements is the GameMaker resources... I believe other assets will appear before the end of the year, and those are also really important.
