Memorial Painting
« on: April 26, 2013, 10:45:07 AM »
Hey ya'll. Just wanted to share a piece I did on commission for my cousin recently. It's for her boyfriend's birthday.

It features her boyfriend's father, who has passed. In life, he was a bullrider and a Navajo medicine man. His animal sign was the bear. The turquoise jewelry symbolizes that he's now with the creator.

Almost everything in this picture has some meaning. :) He wore a red vest and black hat when he rode. The background is painted based on photographs of where they live; Monument Valley, UT. I could really never do that place justice, it's beautiful there.

I actually got this printed onto an 18x24" poster for her to frame so he could hang it on his wall. It should get to her next week and then she'll send me pictures of it! :) I'm excited.

Anyway, picture attached, but I had to make it a crappy .jpg for it to meet the file size requirements.
Click here for a .png version that looks a LOT better.
Click here for closeups of some of the finer details.

Hope you enjoy!

Wow, what a great way to member someone after they've passed away!

Great job xainy! I like you have the bull looking up at the bear in the painting. It conveys some more emotion IMO. You really know how to brings things out. ;)

Thanks so much. :) I spent a lot of time balancing the colors so they'd look good in a print!

The idea was all my cousin's, but I definitely agree. I'm hoping her boyfriend likes it as much as she does.

Thanks!

Thanks, fellas!

The print arrived at my cousin's house and she was able to gift it to her boyfriend. He hung it prominently on a wall in their house and apparently he loves it very much, so yay!

Looks very cool and professional. Do you also do digital animation by any chance?

Thanks, guys! :D

I have done a handful of small animations, but I haven't done any for the past couple years.
Attached is one that I did in...oh...2008 or 2009? It'll animate if you click on the thumbnail. :)
The gradients look awful because I had to lower the number of colors shown to make the file smaller than a certain size. If I did this kinda stuff again, I wouldn't go with gradients, haha.
