Ninja Gaiden IV: Darkness Reborn / Help Wanted
« on: February 11, 2003, 08:19:50 PM »
Amendment:
The format we need for the program is MOD.  I'll accept any format for preview, but the game needs MODs for final addition.

Ninja Gaiden IV: Darkness Reborn / Read This
« on: February 10, 2003, 07:29:23 PM »
Speaking as the writer of Ninja Gaiden 4: Final Confrontation (it's original incarnation), I'm not going anywhere.  I've invested 10 years of writing, scheming, and dreaming for this project, and to find someone with Mott's caliber and desire is a blessing to me and my long-standing dream.
I do hope the story I've constructed really does measure up (at least) to the classic Trilogy, and I hope the concepts to be released will also follow suit.
Am I interested?  Abso-f#$@ing-lutely!  I'm with you all the way, Mott!

Interesting choice....suggest next enemies added to be the wall climber/pipers and the hanging slicers

Ninja Gaiden IV: Darkness Reborn / Paralexing Backgrounds?
« on: January 22, 2003, 04:51:30 PM »
Basically, I wanted to use the whole thing....the sunset in the background for one level and the actual grounds Ryu runs on for another (we'll split them up if we have to IOT avoid free scrolling).

Ninja Gaiden IV: Darkness Reborn / Paralexing Backgrounds?
« on: January 20, 2003, 09:52:09 PM »
Yes yes....new PC...that would be wonderful!  lol
Thank God my school gave my wife a laptop a couple of years ago, but she doesn't want me putting game stuff on it, so it's not much help.
Nighstalker...do you have old copies of the old Dash programs?

Ninja Gaiden IV: Darkness Reborn / Paralexing Backgrounds?
« on: January 14, 2003, 02:32:22 PM »
I have bad news.  My computer's about to give me another migrane.  The mouse is gone.  I tried replacing it and the computer won't read it, no matter what I try.  I've reinstalled the software over ten times and tried many different times to secure the mouse to the PC.  It just won't work!
All this means I won't be able to draw or animate for quite awhile.  I cannot afford a new PC, so I'll be out for awhile.  Believe me, I'm not giving up.  Just need time.
Sorry.

Ninja Gaiden IV: Darkness Reborn / Paralexing Backgrounds?
« on: January 10, 2003, 09:36:50 PM »
True...I'd say make the rain close together in the back and farther apart up front.  I'm sorry...that probably sounds like a big "duh."
We could probably do the same thing with snow in the Himalayas (Act 7-2).
Also...you've both seen my preliminary "Palace of Demons" (Act 10) level.  Is there anything I should add/subtract/change?  I'm not sure if it's big enough.  It's just supposed to be one big room, but I don't know.
Thoughts?

Ninja Gaiden IV: Darkness Reborn / Paralexing Backgrounds?
« on: January 09, 2003, 04:12:11 PM »
Another level idea...Nightstalker...you gave me that one from New York City....redo that background for Level 3, so we could have that in the background (paralexing) as a bottom layer and have the rain be the very top layer....or, if we REALLY wanna go gung-ho, we could have a top layer of rain and another layer of rain between the city background and the gameplay layer.  Just throwing ideas...any thoughts?

Ninja Gaiden IV: Darkness Reborn / Paralexing Backgrounds?
« on: January 07, 2003, 01:42:16 PM »
Actually, guys...why not use some of the area Nightstalker made once way back when on one of the first releases of the NG Dash program....mountanous terrain...it could be for Act 8/Depths of Hell.  Also, the sunset that was behind that terrain we could use for another level.
Thoughts?

Ninja Gaiden IV: Darkness Reborn / Release 030104 (Vertical Scrolling!)
« on: January 06, 2003, 01:49:40 PM »
Aside from locking up, the game worked like a charm.  Much faster (especially with the FPS turned off).
Honestly, at this point, it could use another enemy.  I'm not saying put Katana in it yet, but maybe the blowdart climbers should do nicely (especially in the vertical area).  Or, maybe the Kusari-gama ninja would be an idea ground fighter (or the double kama if you don't want to get that big yet).  Or, perhaps the red hanging ninja with the "gutting hook."  Whichever.
Otherwise, the game looks excellent.

Like a job announcement board, this is a post for assistance.
We're in need of music for this game.  We do intend to bring back a few themes from the original Ninja Gaiden Trilogy, but we still need new original music.  To give you a better idea, this is where each level takes place:
Act I  Hayabusa Family Dojo, Japan
A:   Hayabusa Family Dojo.
B:   fields of Japan to Airport
C:   Airline in midair
Act II City of Angels
A:   beaches
B:   streets of L.A.
C:   Museum of Natural History
Act III  New York City
A:    Central Park
B:   docks/ ferry
C:    Liberty Island/climb Statue of Liberty
D:   top of Statue of Liberty.
Act IV  Amazon Jungle/Temple of the Demon Ruins
A:   familiar jungles
B:   mine tunnels (time limit)
C:   ruins of Temple/top
Act V  Castle Rock (poss time limit to get through parts, before change destroys them)
A:   desert terrain
B:   changing land (fire/ice/forest/magma/desert/sky)
C:   ruins of palace
Act VI  Tower of Lahja
A:   Cliff/caves
B:   Tower interior
C:   Top of tower
Act VII  Himalayas
A:   escape village (no killing)
B:   snowy mountain ascent
C:   Ice caves
Act VIII  Depths of Hell
A:   dark wastelands of Japan
B:   mountains and dark fields
C:   peak of another mountain.
Act XI  Enter the Fortress of Darkness
A:   front path
B:   up staircase.
C:   Interior
Act X  Palace of Demons

Themes for Act 6-A and 6-B are chosen.  For a certain Act, we also request a new sample of the theme from NG3, Level 4-2/7-3.  The rest must be completely original.  We appreciate any effort you give and thank you for your time.

Ninja Gaiden IV: Darkness Reborn / Sorry
« on: December 31, 2002, 07:54:32 PM »
Updates are all well and good...to show that we're still on it.  However, inspiration's a tricky thing.
No, Mott...I won't fault you.  Personally, I'd prefer more major updates between releases, to enhance the gaming experience, but that's just me.  There is merit in frequent updates.  But for now, I'm with you on however much time you need.  I know you're
1) dedicated to this, and
2) need a break every once in awhile.
I'm with you.

Ninja Gaiden IV: Darkness Reborn / 021221_Lite Release
« on: December 22, 2002, 07:19:08 PM »
Ok...the lite updated didn't work in terms of the enemies because they still just stand there until you're right up on them.
Mott..did you see the whole Prologue GIF?  Because when you press start, there's actually more prologue flash screens.  You don't need to do it now, but it's something to think about.
Also...any way we can skip the flash screens?  For some reason, the slash (or any other) button isn't working.
Other than that, it still looks good.

Ninja Gaiden IV: Darkness Reborn / Enemy Status Update
« on: December 21, 2002, 05:15:24 PM »
Well, being able to destroy incoming arrows should be a capability of a ninja...I think it's a requirement.  lol
